TRỐNG ĐỒNG RA TRẬN (BRONZE DRUM TO THE FRONTLINE) – OFFICIAL SYMBOL OF VIETWILL

The Trong Dong (Bronze Drum) is the soul of Vietnamese culture. And despite China's attempt to claim the drum as of Chinese origin, experts and scholars have definitively refuted such notions. The first drum was invented three thousand years ago in northern Vietnam by the Lac Viet, the ancient ancestors of modern day Vietnamese people. It was used for religious ceremonies, for rallying men to war, and for other acitivities in society.

Unfortunately, for generations, Vietnamese lost the technical skills to make the Bronze Drum, and for a thousands year, we could only produce the drum to look the same but does not produce any sound at all.  Nevertheless, artisans have recently managed to rediscover how to produce the drum that not only looks the same as the original, but also produces sound. The time has come for the Bronze Drum to regain not only its beauty but also its "voice."

Vietnam's Bronze Drum VietWill has decided that in line with the long tradition of anti-foreign aggression, in which the Bronze Drum has always been used by the Vietnamese people as a symbol of resistance and cultural independence, we will also make the glorious images and the powerful sound of the Bronze Drum to be our symbol of resistance against modern day Chinese aggression on Vietnamese land and waters.

The sound of the Bronze Drum will call Vietnamese and our friends of all generations, of all cultural, political and social backgrounds to unite in the common cause of defending the motherland against China's attacks and transgressions.

The images of the Vietnamese warriors and the Vietnamese Lac birds will inspire us to soar with courage in our resistance against China's intimidation.

We believe that in the Bronze Drum, we all can proudly unite to fight for the interests and for the peace and prosperity of the Vietnamese people. In lifting up the symbol of Trong Dong, VietWill puts our struggle in context of not only contemporary history, e.g. anti-French colonialism, but our people’s history of 4000 years of building and maintaining an independent Vietnamese identity, in which the Bronze Drum stands as a symbol of peace, strength, determination and resilience. In this span of time, political independence is but one part of the picture, the other facets being the reinforcement of Vietnamese values, culture, and identity. Through the expanse of this history which oftentimes reflects a harsh reality for the Vietnamese people, in their heart and mind, the Bronze Drum has always remained a glorious symbol of endurance despite tremendous changes and transformations. As in the ancient past, now in the present, the Bronze Drum once again rallies all of us to battle. Let us join together for the love of Vietnam.
