Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

I stayed up until 3am last night, praying and holding my breath for "the chance" that our youth in Vietnam being able to show the world our patriotic sentiment. I turned on RFA and BBC and listened so attentively. This morning, I woke up early and immediately looked for the news. Yeah, it was smooth, and it was quiet. My friends, I can't help feeling so sad.

I read www.Vietwill.org and many other websites and feel grateful to those working tirelessly and updating us with a lot of news. Thanks for all the text messages that remind me to pray for our patriotic youngsters in Vietnam to be safe and successful. Thanks all for being together on this long road.

We can not see the protest of our brothers and sisters in Vietnamon TV, but we can feel the synergy of their patriotic enthusiasm. We can not be there with them physically, but our hearts are with them in all struggle they encounters.

This incident happened one day before April 30th. The da...

we lost a fight but we have yet to lose the battle. Keep up the spirit as it'll fuel the next campaign

I am not a superstitious person at all. But I know that Chinese people are. And on this occasion, I'd like to be superstitious for a change. The Olympic torch went out on its own without any interference less than 200 meters from the start at the City Opera House. It had to be reignited. I hope this is a bad omen for China.

And Le Minh Phieu did not participate in the torch relay:

And I really hope LMP can voice up about this matter so that this TS-HS matter is more visible on international stage.

LMP should have expected this. And he should have not even gone to the relay altogether. He would then be the one that strongly declares "I am not going to hold this torch in protest of Beijing's actions." He would make the news and help further the cause. Instead, he ends up being eliminated from bearing the torch, without even being informed ahead of time. What a lost opportunity.

Instead of hearing Vietnamese people cheering, I only heard of loud noises of Chinese people in the background and saw a field of Chinese flags. This is so disrespectful of the host torch relay country. A typical scene everywhere there's a torch relay so I don't feel too bad for Vietnam.

On the other hand, Vietnam government is probably to cheap to distribute free Vietnam flags for the people to wave. No national pride at all.

The event was all about China, not Vietnam so there's no point in waving Vietnam's flag. I imagine it would have looked really silly if the Vietnamese had done so. (Does it make sense for San Franciscans to wave US's flag to hail the event? NOPE!)
Tony   |04-30-2008 21:12:59
In some strange ways, I am relieved that if there had to be flags waving, that it would be Chinese people waving Chinese flags, and not Vietnamese waving Vietnamese flags for the torch, or god forbid, Vietnamese waving Chinese flags. Another way that it seems the government had a conscience was that the event was not at all covered live on television. Very little about the event was mentioned on the TV news programs, and also not a whole lot in the press either before or after the event. If it wasn't such a controversial event, and Vietnamese people were not so against it, there would definitely be much more coverage in all the mass media outlets. I guess this is the government's own little (though hardly praiseworthy) way of not giving all the glory to Beijing.

On 4/29, the VTV channel reports an anniversary of the sacrifice of Truong Sa-Hoang Sa soldiers. I wonder if this also went along those lines.
