By Tony Le 24 May 2008 As we know, for quite some time now, the relationship between China and Vietnam has been characterized by what is called the "16 golden words": Láng giềng hữu nghị (Neighbors in good friendship) Hợp tác toàn diện (Collaboration in all aspects) Ổn định lâu dài (Stability for long time) Hướng tới tương lai (Looking towards the future) However, when Vietnamese see China's actions in the Eastern Sea, they cannot help but look at these "16 golden words" with a feeling of distaste in their mouth. One Vietnamese blogger Cong Ly & Su That has created a new set of 16 golden words to characterize the true nature of the Vietnam-China relationship in respect to what has been happening in the Eastern Sea. 鄰 家 不 良, (Lân gia bất lương) 侵 土 全 面, (Xâm thổ toàn diện) 佔 海 長 時, (Chiếm hải trường thời) 吞 併 將 來 (Thôn tính tương lai) Simple Vietnamese: Láng giềng khốn nạn, (Despicable and base neighbor) Cướp đất toàn diện, (Stealing land in entirety) Lấn biển lâu dài, (Encroaching on the sea for a long time) Thôn tính tương lai. (Annexing in the future) I wonder if VietWill members can come up with other 16 golden words that would effectively describe China's true relationship with Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
